On the afternoon of November 12, 2024, the academic lecture “Decarbonization of River Container Fleet under Carbon Rationing and Trading Mechanism” organized by the Department of Business Administration was successfully held in 601 Wenhan Building East. Mr. Tan from the School of Management of Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST) was invited as the guest speaker, and Prof. Xiong Feng from the School of Business Administration presided over the lecture.
Prof. Xiong Feng introduced the guest speaker, Prof. Tan Zhijiaa, to the students and faculty in the audience, and expressed his warm welcome to Prof. Tan. Mr. Tan's main research interests include transportation economics, and he has published more than fifty academic papers in these fields, covering international authoritative journals in the field of transportation, such as Transportation Science, Transportation Research Part B, C, D, E, and so on.
Mr. Tan shared his latest research results on decarbonization of inland river container fleet under carbon quota and trading mechanism, which detailed the challenges and opportunities of decarbonization faced by inland river container fleet under the current global climate change and environmental pressure. The study not only provides a scientific basis for shipping companies to formulate strategies under the new environmental policies, but also provides policy makers with effective insights on how to promote emissions reduction in the shipping industry through market mechanisms. Participating teachers had an in-depth exchange and discussion around the research results shared by Ms. Tan. Ms. Tan also emphasized the importance of charts and visualization in communicating complex data and research results, and how effective data presentation can enhance the impact and persuasiveness of research.
Finally, Prof. Xiong Feng gave a comprehensive and insightful summary of the exchange session and expressed his heartfelt thanks to Prof. Tan Zhijia for his wonderful sharing.
